The ultimate hairband music festival returns. Warrant, Stryper, and Anthrax rise from the dead to party for three days. It’s like your own personal time machine back to the eighties.

Essence celebrates its 15th anniversary as the largest African-American music event in the country. Beyonce returns as the headliner along with Ne-Yo and John Legend.

Alternative bands like Built to Spill and Future of the Left rule the lineup at this completely free all-day festival.

5. Monolith Festival
September 12-13, Red Rocks, CO

They have been slowly releasing bands on Twitter every day for the last few weeks. With artists including Passion Pit, The Walkmen, and Girl Talk, they’ve certainly kept us interested. And Red Rocks is one of the coolest venues to catch a show.

6. Gathering of the Vibes
July 23-26, 2009, Bridgeport, CT

George Clinton, Strangefolk, and CSNY are just a few of the heasliner at this east coast jam fest.

7.  Harmony Festival
June 12-14, Santa Rosa, CA

More than just music, this California festival covers art, ecology, healthy living, and spirituality. Started in 1978 by a few community activists, they expect 30,000 people this year.

8.  Warped Tour
Starts June 26, Nationwide

The grandaddy of all traveling tours returns for another season of madness. A great way to stretch your dollar as every show is chock full of new talent.

Born during a sweaty, backstage, Bonnaroo downpour, the Chief Festival Junkie's mission in life is to dance, write, and travel to every great festival that this wide world has to offer. While his identity remains a mystery, you may have already met him, probably when he helped himself to your party favors.
