The 2012 NYC music festival season is heating up with the addition of the debut Catalpa Festival. The virgin fest will rock Randall’s Island from July 28-29, 2012. The intial lineup includes Snoop Dogg playing Doggy Style (sweet), The Black Keys, TV on the Radio, Umphrey’s McGee, City and Colour, The Big Pink, ArrabMUZIK, Felix Da Housecat, and Fort Atlantic. Catalpa is promising 50 artists and a final lineup announcement shortly.
Tickets will run you about $100 if you act now, $140 if you stall, and if you’re like us — $180 at the gate. Make sure to grab a weekend ferry pass for $35 and ride over to Catalpa in style with scenic views of the world’s favorite skyline.
Some of the twists with this festival:
The Arcadia Spectacular: An insane structure created from military scrap metal nicknamed “The Afterburner” will shoot 30 foot high balls of flame into the air — while a DJ plays inside.
Frisky’s Church of Sham Marriages: A massive inflatable for getting hitched right on the spot. You can get fake married, and I’m not kidding here, do it legimately.
The High Times Magazine Reggae Stage: The perfect chill antidote to what promises to be a hectic festival. High Times will curate a lineup of reggae stars as will as guest speakers.
A Taste of NYC @ Catalpa: This is a festival trend that we’ve been gorging on for the last couple years. Local, tasty food from the city instead of generic pizza and cotton candy.
