The Music Festival Junkies 50: February 2013 Recap

The MFJ 50 took a short break over the last few months, but we’re back and running down the hottest music festivals on this here website. As always it’s a wild ride into the Top 50. Below we run down some of the highlights.

The Top Dog: Rockfest Kansas City(#1) took the top spot this month mainly because the official website had crashed during the month of February. With no outlet for news, fans soared to MFJ to post their ideal lineup. Never fear — KC Rockfest is back up and running along with a new lineup.

New Kids on the Block:  The highly anticipated debut Bottle Rock (#5) climbed into the Top Ten, while the recently announced Tortuga Festival (#42) made its first appearance as well in the Top 50. Also, Summerfest (#31) booked The New Kids on the Block for 2013.

Will They or Won’t They: The mercurial BamaJam (#10) has run into its fair share of problems over the last few years and with only three months to go until the previously announced dates and zero information, festival junkies flocked to our site to see what we know — which is to start making plans for an alternate festival.

Hola Adictos a la Música del Festival: Major spring festivals in Barcelona, Sonar(#47) and Primavera Sound (#45), squeaked into the bottom of The MFJ 50 and we’re happy to see them. As if we needed any more reasons to visit one of the best cities on the Mediterranean.

The Top Dogs Take a Nap: This marks the first month that the heavyweights of The MFJ 50 ( Bonnaro0, Ultra, Coachella, Austin City Limits, and Sasquatch)  didn’t make it into at least one of the top five spots. It’s also the first time that two of the top five spots are claimed by festivals located outside the United States (Osheaga, Tomorrowland). Go world.
