The Music Festival Junkies 50: July Recap

Welcome to the July edition of The MFJ 50, our weekly recap in which we determine the most popular festivals on Music Festival Junkies. With the first half of 2012 in the books, The MFJ has turned into a free for all this month as we see more new entries that at any time during the year. Our new top spot this month, Catalpa, is another New York City festival as well as brand new this year.

#2 Spot: In just two months, the Allman Brothers Peach Festival, has jumped from #46 to #2 putting the debut festival as a strong contender for the top spot in August.

#6 Spot: Wicker Park, a Chicago based music festival, is also a big mover. The street style music festival moved into the top ten for the first time ever.

#9 Spot: The MFJ crew will be roadtripping out to San Francisco and Outside Lands later on this month. Can’t wait.

#15 Spot: The Puerto Rico edition of the popular EDM festival changed dates. The original fell on a holiday which meant no alcohol can be served. Noooooooooooo!!!!

#21 Spot: Coco, our senior editor, has said this is the best lineup she’s seen for a festival so far this year. Who are we to argue?

#26 Spot: Jay-Z is curating a music festival in Philadelphia. Pearl Jam is on board. Did you doubt that this fest wouldn’t make it onto The 50?

#31 Spot: Best. Name. Ever.

#33 Spot: Have you ever been to Ibiza? It’s awesome. Grab a plane ticket and close out another season of debauchery in Spain. If you can’t make the trip, the dates have been announced for the 2013 Ultra Miami Music Festival…

#37 Spot: If it’s a festival in New York City, odds are good that it will make this list. What can we say? NYC loves us and we love them.

#41 Spot: Newly announced for Summer Set — onsite after hour parties. You can sleep on Monday at work.

#46 Spot: Hey, look. It’s another Ultra Music Festival. This one in South Korea.

Born during a sweaty, backstage, Bonnaroo downpour, the Chief Festival Junkie's mission in life is to dance, write, and travel to every great festival that this wide world has to offer. While his identity remains a mystery, you may have already met him, probably when he helped himself to your party favors.
