Looks like Pipeline Productions, the organizers behind the Wakarusa and Harvest music festivals, are lifting a page from the Coachella playbook. No, they’re not going double weekends, but they have announced the debut of a new three day country music festival scheduled to take place on the weekend immediately following Wakarusa.
Thunder on the Mountain debuts from June 6-8, 2013. The recipe is similar to Wakarusa — four stages on Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Arkansas. The website states that “Thunder on the Mountain promises to be the Midwest’s premier country festival in 2013 and all the years to come…this is one hell of a country party you do not want to miss.”
Artists will be announced sometime in December. We’re guessing that this festival will have a similar feel to Stagecoach or WE Fest. Click over to the website to sign up for updates via newsletter.
Unlike other genres which have seen an explosion of new music festivals in recent years (think EDM and jam), country music fests haven’t come close to reaching their saturation point. Thunder on the Mountain is ideally situated to reach a country lovin’ audience in Arksansa and neighboring state like Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Mississippi.
