Two Weekends, One Lineup: Coachella 2012

May 31, 2011 9

How successful is festival powerhouse Coachella? Organizers announced that Coachella 2012 will take place over two consecutive weekends. Their goal is to throw the exact same festival with the same lineup. It’s not really a gamble. One weekend of Coachella sells out almost every year and interest is definitely high enough to try a double weekend. It’s also (hopefully) a means to shut down scalpers according to the site.

We know many of you were unable to attend this year’s festival because passes sold out much sooner than anticipated. We were truly surprised by the overwhelming response and remain honored by your passion and enthusiasm. We also know some of you purchased through non legitimate sources and were inconvenienced, gouged or totally scammed. We hope that these changes will give everyone the opportunity to purchase directly from Coachella.com.

The dates for Coachella 2012 are April 13-15 and April 20-22, 2012. Here’s another fun fact: Coachella hasn’t raised their prices in six years. Three day passes will once again be $269 plus fees and go on sale from June 3-June 10, 2011.

So here’s the question. With the exact same lineup, which weekend would you pick? Going first means the thrill of the unknown, but taking the second weekend might provide some intel on which acts killed it, and which could be skipped. Drop your comments below.

The second weekend seems to be a better option because, 1) like mentioned in the text, people will know what to expect and which shows are great and which shows were’nt so great, 2) it’s 4/20 weekend and that’s the official celebrate bob marley & marijuana day, which im sure everyone knows! perfect day for a great concert like coachella

Having the festival over 2 weekends would mean the organizers will need to fork out double the costs for artists. If the festival doesnt sell as well as predicted, this could mean that the quality of the 2012 lineup could be jeopardized. Should we not expect many big acts?

I read somewhere that the rumors Radiohead and No Doubt. Where can I find tickets? Coachella.com says early 2012. Are there reliable sites that are offering them now? Please advise. This would be my first Coachella.

Hey Tucker. I would stick with Coachella.com for ticket information/purchasing. Things get a bit shady when you start using other outlets. As far as Radiohead and No Doubt rumors…let ‘em fly. We’re always ready to start guessing Coachella’s stellar lineup.

Hope to see you there. Look for our camper (you won’t be able to miss it).

Overheard a conversation today between 2 goldenvoice execs speaking about how many people were going to be upset when they find out coachella will NOT be the same show over 2 weekends, but instead will be 2 separate shows with different groups of artists. Then the other one says, that was what they had wanted, but never really expected to be able to live up to that expectation. Anybody heard anything else about this?

I would guess that the two shows won’t be exactly the same. With so many artists, it would be difficult to book that many artists over the weekend, but I’m thinking most of the headliners and bigger names will play both weekends.

Check coachella.com Jan 1st. Be careful who you buy from. Last year there were a lot of scams!
