Most music festivals fret about the weather, artists cancellations, and ticket sales, but if you’re putting on Afghanistan’s first rock festival in over thirty years, then there’s a lot more to worry about. It sounds crazy (which makes it sound even more rock-n-roll), but the Sound Central Festival in Kabul is currently throwing a month long festival.
So how do you through a rock festival in a war-torn city? Sound Central keeps all shows a secret until the last minute, then sends out Facebook, Twitter, and text announcements to their fans. They call it a “stealth operation”. Check this story from the New Yorker for a taste of what’s happening.
